The library is opened to the public and contains more than 30 000 books on modern and contemporary art.
Open to researchers and to the members of the Société des Amis , this library is a testimony to the collective memory of its epoch.
The library was founded in 1972, 8 years after the opening of the Foundation, in order to add to this unique place a reference center of books and magazines specialized in modern and contemporary art for students and researchers.
In 1982, Adrien Maeght offers Aimé Maeght’s exceptional collection of bibliophile books and art books to the Foundation. A few years later, to house the collection, Adrien Maeght donated this "Maison des artistes" to the Foundation which overlooks the Miró labyrinth.
This library continues to grow, particularly with the support of the Société des Amis de la Fondation Marguerite et Aimé Maeght and through publication exchanges between the Foundation, museums and international art centers. It is now one of the largest libraries dedicated to art. 35,000 books, catalogs and magazines make it a special place dedicated to research for students, researchers, art historians and curators.
