Joan Mitchell, Mon paysage, 1967, huile sur toile, 260 x 180 cm

Mon paysage (My Landscape)

This large painting, whose dense, subtle oil allows the white of the canvas to show through, invites us to plunge into a landscape that is reduced to a symphony of blues, greens and reds. The title suggests the landscape is not the representation of a precise place, but a synthesis of landscapes beloved to the artist.

Joan Mitchell (1925 - 1992)

The American painter Joan Mitchell studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1948, she settled in Paris, where her painting evolved towards abstraction tinged with expressionism. For a while, she divided her time between America and France, before settling permanently in Vétheuil, near Giverny.
