Originally from Alicante, Spain, Yerai Cortés is one of the most promising artists on today’s Spanish music scene. Renowned for his exceptional flamenco guitar playing, he began his career in the tablaos of his hometown, where he also trained under the guidance of his father. At 17, he moved to Madrid and gained experience performing in iconic venues such as Las Carboneras, Villa Rosa, Casa Patas and Corral de la Morería.
In 2021, a meeting with four-time LATIN GRAMMY® winner and GRAMMY® nominee C. Tangana changed the course of his career. Their collaboration led to the film La Guitarra Flamenca de Yerai Cortés, the first feature by Antón Álvarez (C. Tangana), retracing the guitarist’s life. The project earned Cortés his first Goya Award for Best Original Song for “Los Almendros.” In December 2024, alongside the film’s release, he unveiled his self-titled debut album, featuring the film’s music; the documentary also won the Goya Award for Best Documentary.
In September 2024, Cortés received his first Latin GRAMMY® nomination for Best New Artist at the 26th edition, becoming the first flamenco guitarist ever nominated in a category usually dominated by singers. Winner of the Castillete de Oro at the International Festival of Cante de las Minas, he has collaborated with leading figures such as Remedios Amaya, La Tania, Israel Fernández, Farruquito, Rocío Molina, Niño de Elche and C. Tangana. A producer and composer as well, he is currently in the studio working on his second album.
On August 11, he will perform a special concert at the Fondation Maeght, set in the labyrinth created by the Catalan artist Joan Miró.
