A leading specialist in minimalist music, Vanessa Wagner presents a recital-epic that traces the history of the genre as one might cross the vast American landscapes, along an imaginary “Road 64”: along the way, we encounter a distant ancestor in George Gershwin and his Preludes, shifting from exuberant dance to melancholic blues; a dreamlike founding father in John Cage, with the ethereal harp-like piano of In a Landscape; we travel by train with Railroad by the pioneer Meredith Monk… And all these paths lead to Philip Glass’s Piano Sonata: dance, perpetual motion, and contemplation naturally find their place, ultimately immersing the listener in a dreamlike vision of America.
