The Fondation Maeght join Plein Sud the Visual Arts sector in the Sud region
The main stakeholders of the Visual Arts sector in the Sud region have created a united and supportive network Plein Sud. This mobilization in support of arts and contemporary creation surfaced during the lockdown. In April 2020, several private and public stakeholders met virtually, ranging from Sète to Monaco, Montpellier, Avignon, Arles, Nice, Digne les Bains, Toulon, Hyères-Porquerolles or Saint-Paul de Vence, committed to maintaining a high-quality program this summer and to adapting their safety measures to the health context. The Fondation Maeght quickly joined this initiative with enthusiasm, convinced of the importance of solidarity between the actors to act on the influence of the artistic offer of the South and Occitanie régions.
In total, there are 40 art venues motivated by a common and strong desire to provide their visitors with multiple high-quality exhibitions for this summer: art centers, FRAC (regional collections of contemporary art), DCA’s members (a network of contemporary art centers), Foundations, museums, Institutions, and major cultural events. This united approach aims to be sustainable through regular dialogue with the existing networks in the region (Botox(s), PAC – formerly Marseille Expos - and Mécènes du Sud).
A guide, including a map, was created to make readable and promote the rich and diverse cultural offer of the region by presenting each venue and its program until October 2020. As soon as July, this guide will be available for free in all the venues and tourist offices, alongside an expanded digital version available on the websites of each member of the network.
