Sempervivum10 December 2016 - 05 March 2017
To present the work of one of the most talented artists of his generation, the Maeght Foundation has partnered with the Espace de l’Art Concret in Mouans-Sartoux and the Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur for a unique experience dedicated to the artist Pascal Pinaud which will be presented in three exhibitions. The first two will be shown simultaneously at the Maeght Foundation and the Espace de l’Art Concret followed by the third at the FRAC PACA in the summer of 2017. Each will play with the spirit, the history and the architecture of the locations and will highlight the challenges of a work created in Nice proving that, after Yves Klein, Arman and César, the vitality of the creators from the Côte d’Azur continues to be present and that "it was and always is the goal of the Maeght Foundation, set in the hills of Vence, to exhibit it" as Adrien Maeght reminds us.
Pascal Pinaud takes over the exhibition space of the Maeght Foundation from 10 December 2016 to 5 March 2017. Paintings, large sets of drawings, sculptures, installations and neons will be presented to show the richness of his work in this retrospective exhibition.
"Sempervivum" is the third part of Olivier Kaeppelin’s program for 2016 whose common thread is the questioning of space as a place of transformation of objects, their materials and their representations. "Art is the creator of an unconventional space, a space in constant motion,” explains Olivier Kaeppelin. "Through the works themselves, and through the relationships that develop between the works, the artist offers a new space that he tries to inhabit and which he offers to share with us. This transformation concerns us all. This interpretation involves architecture, the world of work, the body, existence, and the formal structures that surround us. With lines and colors, art makes us forget objects lost to a use or function. Art does not produce images or objects but spaces and forms. “
Pascal Pinaud is an artist who, working from Nice, creates some of today’s most fascinating artwork involving dialogues between abstraction, representation and the figure. Drawing on certain elements from his vocabulary in reality, he takes them or rather involves them in an abstract vision that changes their nature by creating dense moments of painting, drawing and sculpture.
